Surrealism was an artistic and literary movement. It meant to liberate thought, language, and human experience from the limiting boundaries of rationalism. The best movie related to surrealism that I have watched is Tetsuo: The Iron Man that came out in 1989 which is a Japanese movie by Shinya Tsukamoto. There are many scenes that are influenced by surrealism that is the example of liberation of human experience from the boundaries of rationalism. This is a story about a salary man who killed a man in an accident and while he was dumping his body, the dead man took his revenge by gradually metamorphosing salaryman’s body into a walking pile of scrap metal. This idea itself is influenced by surrealism and is beyond rational thinking.
